Lock & Barrel

Shepherd Neame made history when it opened the Lock and Barrel in September 2000, the first ever pub in the ‘dry’ town of Frinton-on Sea. The coastal hamlet was developed as a seaside resort at the end of the 19th century and has an air of Victorian gentility even today, proud of its peaceful seafront without intrusive arcades, novelty shops and candy-floss.

The Lock and Barrel is on Connaught Avenue, "the Bond Street of the East Coast", among the fine independent shops and boutiques, and retains many of the features of the ironmongery that once stood there.

The pub has two pleasant courtyard areas with separate smoking and no smoking areas. Inside, a modern yet comfortable ambience prevails, with stripped wooden floors, a warming open fire and raised areas creating semi-private spaces.

The Lock and Barrel serves fine restaurant style food, with a broadly traditional flavour – with popular dishes including home-made steak and ale pie and lasagne, and it also specialises in interesting and tempting vegetarian dishes.
